Pre & Post-Natal Yoga
Pre-Natal Yoga is the ideal practice for pregnant women. It keeps the body toned and supple without straining and helps the calm the mind and let go of worries and fears which in turn makes an easier labour more likely. Most importantly it opens up a space for women to nurture themselves and connect with their baby. Yoga for Pregnancy classes are suitable for women from 14 weeks of pregnancy, no previous experience of Yoga required.
The classes offer classical yoga techniques of breathing, movement and relaxation specially adapted to suit the needs of each woman through the different stages of their pregnancy- helping them to prepare for birth and more easily get back in shape afterwards.
The classes provide a warm, friendly, safe environment in which all women can gradually improve their flexibility, strength and stamina to enhance general health and well-being of both themselves and their baby. Breathing and relaxation techniques are taught as skills that can be used through pregnancy, birth and beyond.
My own pregnancy and birth were greatly supported by these techniques and practices so that I was able to have a home birth at 43 weeks and a day! I personally found they are gentle yet work deeply. They made me and my baby feel much more comfortable especially in late pregnancy and helped us cope with the intensity of labour confidently.
Post-Natal Yoga (with or without babies) focuses on stabilizing the pelvis, regaining overall strength and tone particularly in the pelvic floor and abdomen through deep breathing, energising and releasing tension through all the body, and deep relaxation.
We aim to gradually draw back in all the muscles that stretched so much during pregnancy in safe way. Individual sessions can begin in the post-partum period (the first 6 weeks post-natally) and progress through the first year depending on each woman's needs either 1:1 or in classes.
I feel it is a great privilege to accompany women and babies through the journey of pregnancy, birth and into motherhood, and I am very grateful to all women and babies I have worked with for their inspiration and joy.
